Helping people move from homelessness toward stability takes more than good intentions. It takes compassionate people willing to show up every day, strong community partnerships, and organizations committed to meeting immediate needs while helping create brighter futures.

That spirit of collaboration was recently recognized when Oregon Governor Tina Kotek met with community leaders and service providers at Shepherd’s House Ministries in Redmond to celebrate encouraging progress across Central Oregon. According to the region’s latest Point-in-Time Count, the number of people experiencing homelessness has declined significantly over the past year—a reminder that when communities work together, positive change is possible.

During the gathering, Governor Kotek thanked local governments, nonprofit organizations, housing advocates, tribal representatives, and frontline service providers for their commitment to expanding shelter, housing opportunities, and support services throughout the region. She noted that reducing homelessness requires ongoing cooperation and the willingness to tackle difficult challenges together.

Redemption House Ministries was honored to be included in the event and grateful to receive recognition for its role in serving some of Crook County’s most vulnerable neighbors. Every day, our staff and volunteers provide emergency shelter, nutritious meals, food assistance, clothing, hygiene supplies, and compassionate support for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. While every person’s journey is unique, each act of kindness helps build a stronger foundation for hope and stability.

The encouraging numbers reported across Central Oregon represent far more than statistics. They reflect people finding safe places to sleep, families reconnecting with resources, and communities investing in solutions that recognize the dignity and worth of every individual.

At Redemption House Ministries, we know there is still much work ahead. The need for emergency shelter, food assistance, and supportive services continues throughout Crook County.
